Charles Taylor Leverages Oracle Cloud’s PaaS Services for Enhanced Operations and Agility

Charles Taylor, a leading insurance solutions provider with a rich history spanning almost 140 years, has embraced Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to elevate its internal operations and productivity, writes Maya Derrick for FinTech Magazine. Vikas Sharma, Global Head of INSIS CoE at Charles Taylor, highlights the company’s successful utilization of Oracle’s OCI to achieve operational excellence.

By leveraging a wide range of Oracle Cloud systems implemented over the past 5-6 years, Charles Taylor has established strong partnerships and enduring client relationships. The company handles end-to-end claims management, establishment and administration of insurers, and global implementation of technology solutions.

Sharma explains that Charles Taylor’s decision to adopt Oracle Cloud was a natural choice due to their existing application developed in Oracle software. OCI’s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offerings played a pivotal role in their decision-making process. The company effectively employed PaaS services and deployed their database on Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS).

Sharma draws a parallel between OCI Autonomous Database and a self-driving car, emphasizing its ability to autonomously perform patching, security detection, and vulnerability identification. This autonomous capability significantly benefits Charles Taylor by integrating an autonomous database into their applications.

In addition to technical advantages, there are financial benefits to using Oracle Cloud. Sharma stresses the importance of time in terms of delivering solutions and generating revenue: «Time is money.» With OCI’s comprehensive suite of services, Charles Taylor experiences faster time-to-market by provisioning servers and services with a few clicks. The time-consuming process of building servers and infrastructure, which previously took days or even months, has been significantly reduced. This reduction in time ultimately leads to cost savings that benefit their customers.

Regarding data security, Sharma underscores the paramount importance of protecting sensitive customer information. Charles Taylor relies on a combination of Oracle’s security products to ensure data safeguarding at all levels. OCI’s services, including Oracle Cloud Guard and DataSafe, play critical roles in securing the tenancy and detecting vulnerabilities at the database level. The company further enhances security by hosting its servers in a private subnet and leveraging OCI’s security list services.

By using Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), which is part of OCI, Charles Taylor has gained agility in solution development. Sharma explains that multiple teams can concurrently work on various tasks, fostering a more agile development process and reducing time to market.

Charles Taylor’s collaboration with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has enabled the company to enhance its internal operations, achieve faster time-to-market, and ensure robust data security. By leveraging OCI’s PaaS services, Charles Taylor has positioned itself at the forefront of the insurance solutions industry, delivering excellence to its clients worldwide.
