Amazon Unveils Nova Act SDK: An AI Agent That Can Shop and Automate Tasks Online

Amazon has introduced a groundbreaking AI agent capable of independently performing online actions—including shopping, submitting requests, and even apartment hunting—without constant human supervision, according to Finextra. The new Nova Act SDK, currently available as a research preview, allows developers to build AI agents that automate multi-step workflows in a web browser.
How Nova Act Works
The Nova Act SDK breaks down complex tasks into smaller, reliable steps, enabling AI agents to execute high-level goals with minimal oversight. While some applications work seamlessly with current technology, more intricate tasks still require occasional human monitoring.
In a demonstration, Amazon technical staff member Vishal Vora showcased how an AI agent could be programmed to:
- Visit Sweetgreen’s website every Tuesday night
- Add his preferred salad to the cart
- Select delivery to his address
- Add a tip and complete checkout
Vora emphasized that true automation means eliminating the need for constant supervision:
«If you have to ‘babysit’ an AI, it’s not really automation. Once the Nova Act agent’s workflow is set up, users can switch on ‘headless mode,’ meaning they never have to take any actions.»
Amazon’s Vision for AI Agents
Amazon envisions AI agents handling increasingly sophisticated tasks in the future, stating:
«Our dream is for agents to perform wide-ranging, complex, multi-step tasks like organizing a wedding or handling complex IT tasks to increase business productivity.»
The Nova Act SDK represents a significant step toward autonomous AI assistants that can manage both personal and professional tasks—freeing users from repetitive online actions.
