GoCardless Joins Government Framework as Open Banking Supplier

GoCardless, a leading bank payment company, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a spot as a supplier on the Crown Commercial Service’s (CCS) Open Banking Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) framework, as highlighted in The Fintech Times. The inclusion in this framework positions GoCardless as a primary resource for open banking services within the public sector, marking a crucial development in its strategic expansion.

Under this framework, GoCardless is now authorized to participate in Request for Tenders (RFTs) for account information services (AIS) and payment initiation services (PIS) from various UK public sector entities, including central government departments, local authorities, educational institutions, and charitable organizations.

The Crown Commercial Service, dedicated to facilitating value-driven procurement for the public sector, has consistently supported government bodies in securing cost-effective solutions. In the fiscal year 2021/22 alone, it enabled savings amounting to £2.8 billion, thereby enhancing the efficiency of public services while ensuring optimal use of taxpayer funds.

By joining the DPS, GoCardless aims to seize new opportunities within the government sector while further solidifying its presence in the charity domain. With renowned clients like JustGiving and Comic Relief already under its belt, the company anticipates leveraging its expertise to serve millions of businesses and consumers accessing government services.

Pat Phelan, Managing Director of UK&I and Chief Customer Officer at GoCardless, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between GoCardless and open banking, highlighting the company’s pioneering efforts since its inception. Phelan expressed excitement about the prospect of extending the benefits of open banking to a broader audience through government collaborations while reaffirming GoCardless’s commitment to being the preferred choice in the charity sector.

This announcement marks another significant achievement for GoCardless in the realm of open banking, following its designation as the payment provider for JustGiving in the preceding year. Additionally, notable entities such as credit card provider Yonder and ethical lender Plend have previously selected GoCardless for Variable Recurring Payments (VRP), further underscoring its industry recognition and trustworthiness.
