Hertz and Stripe Work Together to Power Car Rental Payments

Stripe has teamed up with Hertz to streamline car rental payments, enhancing the customer experience for Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty customers, as stated in Fintech Magazine. As part of its digital rental overhaul, Hertz will consolidate most of its payment volume onto Stripe, offering new digital payment options, including Apple Pay in the US.

Tim Langley-Hawthorne, Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Hertz, expressed excitement about the partnership, noting that it will provide customers with faster and more seamless rental experiences. By leveraging Stripe’s technology, Hertz aims to diversify its car rental fleet, catering to a broader range of customer segments that prefer digital payment methods.

Stripe Terminal will power in-person transactions at 3,000 corporate-owned Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty locations worldwide, integrating smoothly with Hertz’s central reservation system. Additionally, Stripe will process payments for all reservations made directly on Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty websites and apps, ensuring high availability and authorization rates.

Eileen O’Mara, Chief Revenue Officer at Stripe, emphasized the importance of fast, simple, and reliable car rentals, highlighting Stripe’s role in helping Hertz enhance its customer experience. Through a shared product roadmap, Hertz and Stripe plan to address customers’ specific payment needs, including extended authorization capabilities for weekly and monthly rentals.

The partnership will initially focus on consolidating payments onto Stripe at corporate-owned locations across the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. With these enhancements, Hertz aims to offer a more convenient and secure payment experience for its customers, ultimately improving overall satisfaction and loyalty.
